It’s February, the month we think about love. We prepare for Valentines Day, when we show people how much we love them. There are different ways to do this. Sometimes it is giving chocolate or flowers. It may be giving a special gift or going out for a special meal. It could be as easy as just sending a card. All of these things are done to show another person they are loved and cared about.
There is one gift of love that is greater than any other. It is a gift that we cannot buy. This gift of love is found in John 3: 16-17. 16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.17 “Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.”God is pure.
In the beginning, human beings were created in God’s image, pure. When we sin, it stains us, and we are no longer pure. God cannot be with anything impure. God knew that he would have to spend eternity without us. He loved us too much to let that happen and could not imagine life without us.
There was no way we could get back to God on our own, so God gave the ultimate gift of love. He sent His only Son Jesus Christ to come, live a perfect life, and be crucified on the cross. His death was a sacrifice for all sin. Jesus went through the death that we deserve, out of love for us. Jesus did this, so we can once again have eternal life with God.There is nothing that we can do to deserve this gift of eternal life. There is no price that we can pay. There is no way that we can earn it. We can’t pay God back for what he has given us. Instead, it is a gift that is freely given to those who believe. This February, as you receive cards and gifts of love, remember the greatest gift of love. The gift of life eternally with God.
